Greenhouse heating using liquid candles

Growing seedlings of vegetable crops in early spring (and until the onset of heat - approximately until the May holidays) requires strict adherence to the temperature regime.

This is especially important in areas where the temperature is positive during the day, and at night it drops to zero (that is, frosts are possible).

How to ensure the optimum temperature for seedlings in the greenhouse at night? There are two options: to heat the room with an electric heater or use liquid candles to heat.

The option with an electric heater is effective, but costly. Heating a greenhouse in just one night will cost about 70-100 rubles, depending on how much a kilowatt of electricity costs and which heater. For ten days, expenses will be approximately 700-1000 rubles.

The second method is also effective, but, unlike the first, more economical. Heating the greenhouse with liquid candles for two weeks will cost only 100-120 rubles. Almost 10 times cheaper!

How to make a liquid candle

It is very simple to make a liquid candle itself: a wax candle is placed in a 250 ml glass jar, and then it is poured with ordinary vegetable oil.

To make the wax candle stand flat and not fall, you can use a weighting agent - for example, a nut, a fitting for a water pipe, or something else.

Alternatively, you can also fix the candle motionless in the bank with plaster or alabaster.

One wax candle and 250 ml of sunflower oil is enough to heat the greenhouse for 4 days. A liter bottle of oil and four candles is enough for two weeks.

Candlestick Heater

As a "heater" the author uses an ordinary pan. Size, shape, purpose - does not play a special role.

You can also use a milk can. But the most important element of the “heater” is not the capacity itself, but the lid, which will accumulate and then give off heat.

As for the material, the best option is to use an aluminum cover, since aluminum better accumulates heat and, therefore, gives it better.

In the lower and upper part of the pan (or other container) you need to drill 7-8 holes.

Through the openings at the bottom of the pan, the oxygen needed to burn the candle will flow. Carbon dioxide will escape through the upper holes.

It’s better not to drill holes in the lid itself, since in this case it will heat up a little worse. And the author will talk about this in detail in the video below.
